Here's Annie Lore's popular folk (or filk) album from 1987, The Grey Cocked Hat . Most of the songs are original, with a couple of traditional titles. The general theme is rollicking or rousing--some laughs along the way--, and featuring the exploits of a few decidedly feisty females. But there's a bit of the pretty stuff thrown in as well. They're new in loose wrap (shrink wrap can warp records), and i nclude the dust jacket with complete lyrics. Those lyrics come in handy when you're tackling the title song, which is a whopping 35 verses-- and fun! The Grey Cocked Hat was inspired by the ballad variously known as Sovay , Sylvie , The Female Highwayman etc. It takes the central device of the disguised maiden, her lover and the 'ring of contention' and explores further possibilities for the story-- all the way to their conclusion.
