Description

Up for sale is a hard to find single (10 inch, shellac, 78 rpm) record featuring a much under-appreciated African American rhythm and blues singer. Record Label: Regal Records (Linden, New Jersey) Record Number: 3300 Year of Release: 1950 Artist: Annie Laurie One side (1362): Just One More Chance (Coslow - Johnston) (Merit - BMI) Vocal with Instr. Acc. Wax Matrix marks: "R1362" (stamped) and "D" (etched) Other side (1363): Now That You're Gone (Seigel - Madison - Biggs) Vocal with Instr. Acc. Wax Matrix marks: "R1363" (stamped) Annie Laurie (1924 - 2006) was born in Atlanta, Georgia. She began performing in territorial bands and - about 1945 - relocated to New Orleans where she was engaged to bandleader Paul Gaytan. She recorded for Regal Records between about 1947 and 1951, singing on sides backed with Gaytan's orchestra. Subsequently, she sang on the Okeh and Savoy labels. Perhaps her biggest hit was It Hurts to Be in Love , on the DeLuxe label. In 1962, she left the music industry entirely to devote herself to the Jehovah's Witnesses. (NOTE: Annie Laurie, the R&B singer, should not be confused with the traditional Scottish ballad or the 1927 silent movie starring Lillian Gish, both of the same name.) Just One More Chance , in a more traditional arrangement, was Bing Crosby's first big recorded hit, in 1931. Please see above for full description of condition and for photos. Sold as is.
